I've applied to a total of twelve places in the last week and a half, and I've only had one denied (and indirectly to boot). It sucks when you have next to no experience with jobs, and most places want you to have said experience. And before anyone asks, I'm just looking for entry level retail work aka working as a cashier. I've never used a cash register before (save to sign in when I was a bus-girl at a cafe) but I know it's really not that difficult. I have a feeling a lot of these places just don't want to deal with any training. I wish I could apply into something art related, but there really isn't anything where I live, and I don't have any art software to use right now. I'd do commission work, but like I said, no art software, and I'm not sure how people will feel about my traditional methods.
I just need to earn some money for these reasons:
My iMac died on me so I need to save up for a new MacBook Pro for both art and college work
My ps3 bluray drive died on me so I need to save up for a new ps3 (this isn't as important, but video games is how I relieve my stress)
Because my iMac died I have to buy new art software, so i need to save up for Adobe CS6 student edition
And most importantly.....I NEED GAS MONEY!! I drive 80 miles a day just to go to my college and back.
Not to mention I have no money to spare on little things. Last semester most lunch days consisted of un-healthy frozen food, or pb&j sandwiches every day, sometimes nothing at all.
I'm going to start calling back some of the places I've applied to, but right now things aren't looking to good for me. The only hours I have to offer are Weekdays: Available after 4pm/ Weekends: Available all day. I just want minimum wage......and I want to still be working till next summer so I'll have money for my eventual quest into university.
*sigh*
I know a lot of others are worse off than I am, but it's still frustrating. My summer semester starts the 4th of next month, and I really need to start earning money if I'm ever going to fix my technology problem/have money for gas and food. I hate having to ask my mother and step-dad for money as they are working their butts off and we're barely making it by what with all our appliances malfunctioning. (currently waiting for Washer guy to come and look at our "replacement washer" that broke down on us.)
Sorry to rant/vent so much. Searching for a job is just really depressing when all you want is a basic/menial job with very little pay, and no one is willing to give you a chance all because you've never used the over-sized calculator known as a cash register.
